Killing this giant spider gave me enough XP to level up to 4. And it opens the list of Feat, including the one giving access to some spells.
Bard is based on CHA. I'm trying to see what would be a good feat for a respeced Naeblys into a Rogue. I want to keep the "The only thing better than murder is getting away with it". I like it it stays in the shadows, kills and steal, but can also roll Intimidation/Deception/Persuasion. So my list of spells include:
The bard one gives me Mage Hand, Friends and Minor Illusion, it's pretty neat.
Vicious Mockery gives DIS, with a WIS save.
True Strike on a Thief could also be interesting. One action to make Advantage on next Roll, and Sneak Attack with the dual wielded hand.
That being said, Lucky as a feat, seems to give 3 free ADV attacks per rest as well, even easier to get Sneak Attack with that.
Dual Wielder allows me to Dual Wield anything, not only light weapons, which could open many interesting usage of weapons.
Level 1 spells include Animal Friendship, Speak with Animals, Faerie Fire (DEX save or ADV on attacks)
Mobile is also a very good feat for a Rogue.
I got Twin Spells, and I can twin spell scrolls.
I seem to also be able to Twin Spell Hex, and Eldritch Blast. I can't yet fire several Eldritch Blasts, so I wonder if I shouldn't have gone pure Sorcerer.
I respecced Gale into a Gloomstalker.
And his range weapon does A LOT of damage. That seems like a bug, that only triggers when he doesn't have melee weapon equipped.
Oh ok, I understand. It's the passive Sharpshooter: All In. -5 to hit, but +10 to damage.
My main character is now a Thief, Astarion a Sorcerer and Gale a Ranger.
I took Ritual Caster on Astarion, but don't know how to cast those spells.
They are not visible in the UI.
But I can search to find them and add them to my bar.
And because I'm a Storm Sorcerer, I can cast Fly whenever I cast Fly has a bonus Action each time I cast a level 1 spell, but it's hard to use as it isn't added to my hotbar automatically, and even if I drag it, it gets removes after 1 turn.
Oh, it's added below my Sorcery points. Good to know.
The familiar can meow. Maybe it can replace the Minor Illusion? Anyway, those Ritual Casting spells are so good. I need more of those buffs.
I got Longstrider on everyone. And each time I cast it, I can fly. That might be interesting for exploration.
Reads too much like real propaganda.
Are goblins playing?
Love the NPCs.
I think I made friends with Ogres that I can call with a horn.
Found the secret passage in the Alchemist cellar.
Got surprised by a skeleton in a coffin, that used his action to break another coffin, freeing another skeleton, and so on. That was clever dynamic.
I disguised myself as a Tiefling, to see if it would trigger the Shapeshifter Boon Ring.
I'm in a Necromancer lair, for sure.
That's an awful book.
So much race interactions it's incredible.
You just walk in the forest and BAAM you're running into what looks like a devilish aristocratic vampire called Raphael.
A devil!
Finally found Karlach.
I wonder if I'll make her a Barbarian or a Monk. I've always wanted to play a monk, but Barbarian seem to have cool classes as well. I'm already thinking of a second playthrough, so I might make a monk on another playthrough and go with Barbarian this time.
I can picture her as moving everywhere on the battlefield, not staying in one spot for long.
Hmm, Reckless is a level one Barbarian thing. It can make every attack with ADV, which is nice for a sure Sneak Attack as a rogue.
Oh no, I was on the level up screen. Let's respec her first. I barely have enough coin to respec her, I've spent everything in multiple respecs and buying stuff.
CON bonus to AC; but I want to wear medium armor!
Ok, let's play her as All Muscles / No Brains.
I can set my weapon on fire and deal additional fire damage for 10 turns? Wow, nice.
If I go with Wildheart, I can speak with animals (which is lacking in my current party comp), and also pick a passive.
This one gives me resistance to all damage (not only physical ones).
Eagle gives DIS on opportunity attack, and dash as a bonus action. This goes well with my boots that charges me with lightning when dashing. My favorite so far, as it goes with the speed one I envision her.
And also gives Diving Strike to attack from high ground without falling damage. Nice.
Elk makes me move faster, and I can trample everyone on the line, putting them prone. Interesting as well.
Tiger makes me jump further (might be interesting with the Leap spell to see how far I could go). Can also attack 3 targets.
The wolf is a nice passive to give everyone ADV if attacking someone around me.
Going with Eagle Heart. Having one more bonus action seems the more useful for now.
And I'm going with GWA feat. Critical Hits and Killing someone gives me another attack as a bonus action. I can also choose to take -5 to hit, and do +10 damage.
I hesitated with Charger, to be able to move and atttack/shove with a bonus action.
Or mobile, to dash through difficult terrain, move faster and disengage for free after having atttacked. I hit here and there and here again. Might take that for Naeblys later though.
Polearm master allows me to do attack of opportunities to those that come in range instead of leaving it. Would be good on the tank, Shadowheart.
Or I go with Savage Attacker, for consistent bigger damage. Yeah, let's go with that.
I have been trying to sort my inventory to group stuff together and not it be too cluttered. So I'm picking up everything I can to act as containers. Stuffed Bears, Ribcages... Wait, I can stack Ribcages AND put stuff in it. Hmm, this reminds me of a stacking bug in BG1. Let's try to play with that.
I have decided that I will keep spells in ribcages now. I tried to stack ribcages while putting stuff in it, and putting ribcage inside of ribcage, but it seems to be working.
My storm Sorcerer could fly after casting a ritual and went on exploring. Nothing to find though, except for a way to the Emerald Grove I had already explored.
I need to understand how Tides of Chaos works. It's written it gives me Advantage on my next Attack when I activate it, but it also says it's a Reaction. I thought it would force ADV on my next Attack, thus giving me the opportunity for Sneak Attack, but what it seem to be doing is prompting a modal if I fail an attack roll, suggesting to reroll. Definitely not the same, and then doesn't make the subclass as interesting for multiclassing.
I'll also try to set the best conditions for pickpocketing people. It's easy enough to have turn the other way, and flee once the deed is done. What I need is a good bonus on my roll, and ADV. ADV I can get thanks to Cat's Grace from my Cleric. Bonus I might can add with Guidance from myself.
I wonder if it's easier to pickpocket a Sleepy target, though. I have a potion that puts to sleep the one drinking it, I wonder if I can throw it on someone.
I tried to throw a potion of sleep at her. I don't get the math here. Base DC 8 + 3 CHA bonus +2 proficiency is 13, not 11. So her Save of 12 should have failed.
After a reload, the math is the same, but this time she failed. Let's see if it makes pickpocketing her any easier.
Hmm, I rolled a 16 ok. 4 proficiency, my proficiency bonus is only two I don't get where it's coming from. 1 with Guidance, not very good but better than nothing. +3 DEX modifier, ok. +1 Sleight of Hand? That might come from my gloves but where is my actual Sleight of Hand bonus?
I'm supposed to have +8 Sleight of Hand (this includes the Proficiency bonus and the gloves, base is 5). I don't get why it's not included in the tooltip. Maybe the gloves are buggy?
Removing the gloves does put it back to 5 base +2 Proficiency as it should. Let's try stealing again.
I lose the +1 from the gloves, and I still have +4 Proficiency which is wrong, it should be 2
Oh ok, got it. The value includes the DEX bonus. So I only have +4 in Sleight of Hand, +3 with DEX, which is the 7, and as displayed in the other tooltip. Got it.
Anywayyyyy, I cleaned the place from the fake paladins of Tyr.
Also, it seems to be possible to stack up Wooden Crates and Climb on them. Gonna make a stock of them.
Weird physics here.
I put a minor illusion in the fire and they all went there and got burned.
I think Counsellor Florick has a small issue with her dress here.
I have my own personal wooden crate full of wooden crates. That way I can block the escape of the counsellor while I try to pickpocket her.
She only had healing potions on her. And I think she managed to disappear through my crates.
I discovered I can put stuff in someone's pockets; by drag and dropping from my inventory. I wonder what happens if I put enough stuff on them that they are encumbered. There's only one way to find out.
Even if putting doesn't require a roll, once put I cannot remove it unless I succeed on a Sleight of Hand Check.
I managed to put 64kg on a Flaming Fist soldier, but it didn't prevent her from moving. I should try to go naked with my backpack full and test again, ideally on a creature that has a low STR. Time for another test later.
Oh, and the Flaming Fist soldier saw me, so I killed her. I hate Flaming Fist soldiers.
Haha, got me laughing at "small and furry hamster". There is going to be a statue of Minsc and Boo!
My target became suspicious after I pick his pockets (a fellow rogue!), so I ran away, to hide in the barn, but got attacked by a Ox there. You can see me in the background, while the thief interrogate my friends.
I brought the Ox to the thief, see if he would react.
Doesn't seem to be reacting, and its pathfinder algorithm got confused. Let's end this.
I now went to the Zhentarim outpost, Zarys asked for the shipment but I had already opened it back in the cave, before I knew it was what she was looking for. So I went back, picked the chest back, put the flask in it (weirdly, it is now empty... I don't remember having emptied it...) and will try to give it back to her.
Hopefully she'll trust me if I say I didn't open it. Actually, I could have put anything in it... That gave me an idea. What if I put some very heavy shit in it and give it to her?
I know. There are lots of dead bodies above, I'm going to grab those.
So, I managed to fill the chest with a Smoke Powder barrel, a dead Halfelin and a dead Flaming Fist officer. That will make a good surprise to whoever opens it.
Hehe, here's my gift to you.
Shit, she saw it was already opened... Maybe if I cast a spell to lock it on it? I'll need to respec one of my Companions to learn this spell, but it's doable.
Say hi to Sir Fuzzalump, that I resurected just for the task of casting Arcane Lock on the chest. What is weird is that I cannot pick the chest anymore once it's on the group as it would make me encumbered. But I can pick it empty and then fill it in my inventory. But that, I can't do once locked. So I'll have to find a way to Lock it, while in my inventory.
I made him drink a potion of STR, so he will be the one hauling the chest.
And with that, I managed to add a dead goblin.
A shit, I can't cast on it from the inventory, I need to put it on the ground. So I'll see what I can fit and still haul without being encumbered.
I don't get it, I'm at 91 with only the Flaming Fist officer in it, and that I can pick up.
If I had the dead goblin to it, I can't pick it up.
But if I pick the chest and the goblin separately and add one in the other, then I can pick it up as I'm only at 126...
I think I made it bug. I managed to put the cadaver of the goblin inside the cadaver of the goblin...
Hu? I could add it several times. If I close the container they're all gone though.
But if I throw it and loot it, everything is still here...
Weirdly enough it doesn't work for all corpses. I can't put the Flaming fist inside itself.
Anyyyyywayyyyy, even with Arcane Lock, she still wants to kill me. Shit, I thought I could make friends with the Zhentarim.
As I couldn't get her to accept my chest, I got ready for a fight and prepare a nice chest home for her.
So, to answer a previous question. I tried to attack someone, while not being hidden. I missed, I was suggested Tide of Chaos, I accepted, rerolled and hit. This time it triggered the Sneak Attack. So it kinda work, but on reactions. I cannot force it to have a Sneak Attack when I want, only if I initially miss.
Oh what the fuck the dumbass bitch. She threw alchemist fire into the pit, and EVERYTHING exploded. It killed the "pet painter" and myself. Ok, that was fun, I'm not going to reload, gotta live with the consequences of my actions, this was a very reasonable thing to have her do, I would have arbitrated the same thing as a DM.
Naeblys is face down in the fire, and there isn't even a ladder to get to him. Shit.
I had Astarion cast a Minor Illusion cat downstairs, so I could target it with the Diving Strike ability, which allows me to jump on a target below and NOT take any falling damage.
Arf shit, I can't cast spells, even Revivify scrolls while raging. No worries, I'll end the rage and save Naeblys.
Well, I think you can call that completed.
Uh? Not sure what happened.
Uh? what? I did a Critical Hit and it suggests Tenacity?
I liked how it turned out with me not reloading. I'll try to not optimize, and follow the story, and live with the consequences of my failures. Maybe only reload if my whole party dies.
I tried to shot at a Minotaur, did a 1, rerolled with Tides of Chaos, but still missed. Is that me being really unlucky and rolling twice a 1 (even with Karmic Dice enabled?), is it expected that it doesn't work on Critical Misses, or is that a bug?
Because I missed, he didn't register it as an attack, and it didn't trigger combat, though.
Oh shit, there are two of them. They have 84 HP each, I'll need to focus my fire on one.
There are mines downstairs. Maybe I can lure them in it.
Pfiuu, got them without being hurt. That was nice.
Some white and black flowers cause confusion. Good to know, I might be able to use that as a trap.
Another Minotaur. Already hurt.
Did he just fucking die by coming here by himself?
Yep, definitely trapped. I thought wearing a Selune staff would help me pass by no. I'll try with a Dakness arrow.
Apparently I can approach, sneaking.
Oops, lockpicking the portcullis remove my stealth and I got fried.
I had Karlach sneak to him, loot him bare, put all his loot in a pouch, drop the pouch, pick him up, bring him back, revivify him, and he went back to pick his stuff.
And now I can open the portcullis.
I pushed a lever inside, hoping it would stop the ray of lights. It didn't. Now I'll try throwing a barrel of explosives on one of the statues.
Doesn't seem possible. The best I can do is here.
Maybe I can explode this thing.
Ok, that might work...
That didn't work as expected...
I explored and found a Waypoint, and a ladder to lead to a stone wall. Gonna get back to the Underdark.
I actually liked this last session. Living with the consequences of my action, trying to survive from a bad situation without reloading, made me, I think, a better player and will help me uncover more hidden details.
I can spot petrified drows in the distance. I do have one elixir to unpetrify someone, not sure I want to use it on drows. I'll have to be careful.
First time I'm encountering that. Volatile. Explosive. Gonna test fire at it.
It does explode, but it also did damage to the glowing gems. What would happen if I were to break those?
It just breaks, but doesn't seem to have any additional effect.
Oops, I think I haven't been careful enough.
A Spectator. That's going to be a fucking hard battle. And only Naeblys is in the Initiative Order right now, I have to bring in the others.
Wait, he unpetrified the fucking drow on purpose?
Oh, they are under his charm? I need to destroy the other statues before he bring them back.
Uh, what? He killed Naeblys and now went to the group. I might need to bring him up to the Selunite statues.
Reading the tooltip, it seems that damaging the drows could turn them on my side.
Time to use my Scrolls of Protection from Evil and Good. I can't be Charmed, Frightened, Posessed by them.
The thing flew on the other side of the wall. This might be my chance to lure him into the Selenite rays? I don't really know how I can do that without being hit myself.
More to the point, I need to save Naeblys.
I invoked a Spiritual Weapon to distract the thing, while also casting a scroll of protection on Karlach. She can't cast it herself as she can't concentrate while raging.
Astarion got down, and will send Magic Missiles on each Drow, hoping to turn the tide in our favor.
This worked, and I made him fly away after casting the spell.
Good, they are working with me now.
I also did try something crazy. Piling crates in front of the Spectator, and adding an explosive barrel at the top.
Shit, now Astarion is also down.
Bonus action heal on him from above. Let's pause for a moment and enjoy this fight.
Naebly is at two fails, maybe I should heal Naeblys instead...
No, let's try healing Astarion and have Astarion help Naeblys.
Seems like I can throw a potion of healing to Naeblys. Let's see if it works.
Wow, very good. It broke the potion, and apply the healing on impact. It even applied Blade Ward and Bless, as per Shadowheart special powers \o/
I am so going to jump on your ugly one-eyed face!
Damage from my leap is based on my weight and the height.
This doesn't seem to take into account what I'm carrying though. I wonder if I do more damage when enlarged.
He does like to move a lot, and take attacks of opportunities, I need to get closer in melee.
First thing first, Astarion needs to break the charm on the two drows.
Good, the Drow did exactly what I would have done as soon as it would have been under the 24HP mark.
I took this as an opportunity to check what the Drows have in their pockets. They might not notice if I steal from them right now.
Unfortunately, I didn't get the chance to do it. I cast Guidance on myself and it eat my last action before the Drow killed the sleeping spectator. Next time I'll take my chances.
hahaha, the double-crossing drow attacked me and want me to take that as a compliment.
I wanted to put him to sleep with his meager 16HP, but the drow are immune to that.
I tried to put him off-balance with Flourish, but he resisted. So I moved away of his range, took an attack of opportunity (that I blocked thanks to Shield), and could get out of his cone of vision, hide and attack.
Not taking any chance, I'll also push him back in case he survives the damage. 8 from the attack, 8 from the sneak attack and 2 from the fall, that killed him. And got me invisible, to continue my killing spree.
Scroll of Thunderwave moved the one in melee further away.
Karlach pushed one of them one level below, it will take him some time to come back.
And I finished the fight with Karlagh diving on the one she pushed.
What a devious trap. A backpack on top of a trap...
Got quite the interesting loot here.
I wanted to test what would happen if I only took stuff from the backpack, not the backpack itself. Well, the backpack wasn't heavy enough to prevent the vent from spurting noxious gas, and mixed with the torch next to it, it created a chain reaction.
I removed the torch, and it removed the chain reaction. But I learned a lot, and I might re-use the environment like this later.
Something is coming. Might be a Bulette.
That was exactly that. Looks exactly like the plastic toy it's coming from. AC17, 125 HP, but very low INT. I don't that much crowd control INT/CHA spells, though.
Which made me realize the level up speed is way slower than Solasta, which is a good thing. Let you really learn each level, and its strengths and weaknesses.
I put her down at 5HP and she fled, leaving me out of combat, used in spells and resources, and not even able to loot. Next time I see her, I'll not let her go.
Hmm, apart that it's heavier and more expensive, it's the same, right? Actually no, it seems the bonus of the green one isn't added in my character sheet. I'll use the blue one then.
What the fuck is this? Floating gold and mushrooms.
Haha, I got it. It was a potion of feather fall. When I took it, everything else fall down.
The mushroom disappeared when I got close. Shit, I'll have to guess where they are.
There is a weird guardian thing looking at me. Oh and I somehow stumbled upon a cave full of wild chanting Kuo-Toa. I went back the other way for now. There is still so much I need to do on the surface. I still haven't finished with the Emerald Grove, so I don't want to go too deep in the caves.
I saw that they were not doing anything, so I risked going further and they shot and killed me.
They seem to only track one person at a time. Either because they are tracking the first one, or only those that can cast magic.
Yeah, only because they can only track one at a time...
Shit, I can't even kill them forever, they just come back.
Actually, once killed a first time, it can be hit with raw force. But when killed again, it just keep coming back.
I put some garbage around the other one to hide from it.
But apparently, this doesn't cut its line of sight enough.
Looks like I can use a stone urn to protect myself from the rays. That's tricky, it needs to have the perfect angle, and they can shoot out of their turn.
But it seems once they are focused on someone, I can sneak around, staying out of their cone, and maybe put something in front of them.
Say what? Chest of the Mundane, when I put stuff out of it, it gets transformed into real objects. The mundane object is always different, but the one behind stays the same.
Does it also alter the weight? It's hard to say. If I put stuff in our out of the chest, my carrying capacity stays the same, but the tooltip says if doesn't weight much. I'm not sure which to believe.
Haha, it even works for containers inside the container.
This game is beautiful.
Feather Fall as a ritual (meaning, infinite casting), is very useful, especially here.
An antimagic field. That's interesting. There is so much about the Underdark that is alien and not working as expected, I like it. The anti-magic field clearly seems to be emanating from those flowers. I wonder if this is because of this tree that the tower elevator doesn't function anymore. I'll wait a bit before picking them up.
This seems to only work in the underdark. But I think I need some of them to craft a specific weapon, so I'll have to be careful not to expose it to sunlight.
This game is giving away items with infinite casting of some of the best spells. I wouldn't feel bad playing another game with a pure fighter type, because I would still have access to Guidance, Detect Thought, Feather Fall, Speak with Dead, etc.
This is funny. Putting the Sussur petals (that create an anti-magic field) in the Chest of the Mundane, reveals all of the items inside. Nice little touch.
Splitting them in two though, reverts the effect.
Oh shit, I buggued the thing. I made two anti-magic plates, that act as the Sussur thing, but actually look like plate. At least, in my inventory.
Ok, ok, ok. There are some weird interactions between the Chest of the Mundane and the Sussur petals. I wonder if there is a way to duplicate items with this.
I think I got it. A Sussur plant in the chest cancels it. Two Sussur plants cancel each other, making the chest work again. They need to be in two different stacks though.
Somehow I managed to get a mix of mundane and regular items. The best (or worse) I can do is turn a regular item into a mundane one, even outside of the chest.
That is interesting, and I'll probably need to try more. For example, can I stack a regular spatula with a transformed one, and what happens if I put them back in the chest?
For example I managed to transform a chest into a Ladle that can contain things. Actually, I'll try to create unique version of containers.
Seems like swapping characters in the middle of the changes adds another level of weirdness.
Those plates and stuff on the floor are actually transformed Wooden Crates that I managed to get out of the chest.
I can even Climb On and have all the contextual menu of a regular create.
They stay like this even if the character holding the anti-magic item is far away. They still weight as much as a wooden crate, though.
If they are transformed into the same item, they can be stacked.
If not the same items, one goes inside the other.
I transformed gold into 1041 "Plates" and the weight increased a lot.
Default stack was 1.04kg, transformed one was 208. Feels like the weight does change, but can only increase.
I managed to put some in my bar. The 1041 bowls are money, the 4 spatulas are healing potions.
I can't use the spatulas in that form.
I can throw the "bowls" though, but it only throw one, and it turned to a gold piece back on the floor.
Another weird aspect of the chest (without the flowers) is that if you put a container inside the chest, the container is transformed, but the items inside. And you can then put back the items from the subcontainer into the chest and they keep their form.
So I updated the icon of all my containers to make them easier to spot. Goblet is for potions, Plate for throwable, ribcage is still for scrolls and spatula for arrows. Bowl is for the stuff to sell, Bucket of fish for quest items and stuff bear for loot I don't want to sell.
Gonna take advantage of being in an anti-magic field to test the book. This gave me a casting of Speak with Dead. Not bad, I don't need the necklace for that now.
I was happy to have the Bulette almost dead, especially since I discovered the Advantage I have thanks to my bow (Feller of Monsters) works even if I don't have the bow equipped, so it means I can easily Sneak Attack.
But then, it bit me while at full HP, with a Critical Hit, and did 57 damage in one hit!
Finally got it, with the Magic Missiles bypassing the AC.
I spotted the Myconid before they spotted me. Maybe I should send only one person there, so if they confuse them, it will only attack more?
Now let's see how well the Sorcerer / Rogue duo can handle pickpocketing of this merchant.
Actually, another dude appeared while I was talking to the first one.
Hmm, well I think Cat's Grace + Guidance works well.
Oops. I stole that already.
The various trinkets are giving me access to all kind of Jump, Speak with Animals, Misty Step, etc. Even healing spells. I feel like I could probably remove someone from the team and still have all the helper spells I need. Shadowheart is the next on my list, I might make her a Shadow Monk and turn Karlach into a Paladin of some sort. I'll try that next level up.
The Jump from my ring is once per Short Rest.
Feather fall is infinite, though.
Misty Step is also once per short rest. I think that's good enough for some good old fashion exploit exploration. If I ever were to do another solo run, I would try to come here quickly to gather all the items I would need. There are 3 vendors in a very small area.
Detect Thoughts is once per long rest, but it lasts until the next long rest.
And I stole boots from a dying Duergar.
And I leveled up by killing the dying gnome. What an on-point RP.
